Today is our one-year blogiversary!
Today marks the first ‘Blogiversary’ of the digital space known as Two Go Round-The-World. When Kathryn and I started this blog last year, we never thought that we would be where we are today—one year later. Our first post, entitled “From Small Beginnings Come Great Things” focused on our commitment to long-term travel. We wrote: “We launched this site because we wanted to know if it is still possible to have great, life-changing adventures on a shoestring”. And we signed off with a “More to come!” And there certainly was more to come—much more!
Thanks to our readers
Over the last year this blog has grown beyond the bounds of our imaginations with over 150 posts, hundreds of thousands of visitors, over five hundred subscribers—and too many comments to count! Thank you for spending your valuable time here. It would have been pretty darn lonely for Kathryn and I to blog to one another—without you guys. In this short year, we’ve met many amazing readers, received many heart-warming emails and have enjoyed our travels across the blogosphere with many amazing bloggers! And thanks to all the travel bloggers out there—you know who you are—who’ve inspired us to keep writing and to build a better travel blog.
Blogging as an outlet
Blogging has provided us with an outlet. We use it to look back. And to look forward. We once kept intensely detailed journals, which is all well and good but it’s an inward pursuit. Journaling is about communicating with ourselves, not trying to communicate with anybody else. Travel blogging has helped us so much, in terms of formulating how we think about long-term travel—the things we need to learn—and issues we need to explore further. Also, in the space of this blog, we challenging ourselves to articulate our thoughts—our vague convictions about things—into words. Cold clear words. We’ve made our goals public. This is an awesome practice, as it keep us focused ont he road ahead. It also has kept us writing. Almost every day. In a public way. To set goals together as a couple is great—but to set goals in front of an audience uses different muscles altogether.
Happy Canada Day!
Oh — by the way ‘Happy Canada Day”! Or according to Nomadic Matt— flag-on-a-knapsack day! In Canada we have two seasons—six months of winter and six months of poor snowmobile weather. We’re enjoying the poor snowmobile weather right now!
